State Treasurer
Did you have a favorite book when you were a child? My favorite was the Little Golden Books Poky Little Puppy. The Poky Little Puppy is constantly lagging behind his siblings and doing things his own way. He benefits from this independence in the beginning and is even rewarded for it. However, over time his continued pokiness starts to catch up with him. His siblings start working together to do the right thing and are rewarded by their mother with strawberry shortcake. The poky little puppy misses out and ends up going to bed without a bite and feeling “very sorry for himself”.
Hi! I’m Michelle Sachs, a Sioux Falls Jaycees, and I’m the SDJC State Treasurer for 2012 as well as Blue Chip and Parade Program Manager. I feel fortunate to have joined the Jaycees in July of 1998, but have to admit that sometimes I could be described as the “poky little Jaycee”. Over the years I’ve fluctuated between times of great involvement with serving on the local and state board and taking advantage of all the great opportunities to then having no involvement. During those periods of absence I was ALWAYS reminded of the great things the Jaycees are doing without me; I knew I was missing out on so much and I only had myself to blame.
President Jamie has declared 2012 the “Time to Rise” for the South Dakota Jaycees and I’m up for the challenge! I’m looking forward to serving on the state board and working hard to be part of something great. The “poky little Jaycee” is a thing of the past and I can’t wait to have my strawberry shortcake with all of you!
