Rapid City Jaycees
Hello from Rapid City!
The Rapid City Jaycees chapter continues to strive to increase our membership and get out of the 20’s! Membership recruitment and retention has been our biggest challenge, as we know it probably is yours as well. Even though our numbers may be low, our chapter is very active throughout the year putting on several large fundraisers for two very important causes here in the Black Hills: Camp Friendship and Toys for Tots; along with a few other very important projects here in our community.
We just finished our Marine Corps Toys for Tots program where we collected and distributed over 5200 Christmas toys for children throughout the Black Hills and surrounding areas. We are always fortunate to have assistance from other groups in the community such as the Marine Corps League, EAFB volunteers, Pepsi Co., etc to help us with toy collection and distribution.
We have two big projects coming up. The first is our 5th annual Cinco De Mayo 5K Run/Walk on May 5, 2012. This Run/Walk was started to raise money for Camp Friendship, a summer camp here in the Black Hills for individuals with disabilities. The second project is our yearly Bronco Basketball game on May 12, 2012 at South Middle School here in Rapid City. We enjoy planning, working and playing in this charity basketball game against former Denver Bronco football players to raise money for Camp Friendship and our Toys for Tots program.
Besides these two projects, we are also hoping to have fun membership social activities on a monthly basis. Our monthly membership meetings are the 1st Thursday of the month at the Rapid City Public Library at 6pm – if you are ever in town we invite you to join us!
